Ojén

This traditional white-washed village is one of the gems of Malaga province and is just a 20 minute drive from Marbella. Settled in the mountain range of the Sierra de las Nieves, it is a rural escape with plenty of outdoorsy charm thanks to the numerous streams and rivers that flow down from the mountains.

Istán

Located just a 20 minute drive from Marbella, Istán is an earthly paradise that includes a reservoir and plenty of water features within the village. Istan also offers plenty of stunning views and picturesque spots. The church of San Miguel and the Torre Escalante tower are the two most outstanding features of Istán and are a must-see for those interested in local history.

Mijas

If you had to picture a traditional Andalusian village, Mijas may very well be the very one to spring to mind. At just a 25 minute drive away, it is a must-visit if you are in the area. The local burro taxis (donkey taxis) are one of Mijas’ most memorable tourist attractions, while you can also visit the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña hermitage (the local patron saint), the Jardines de la Muralla gardens and enjoy the panoramic view point where you can see over the whole Costa el Sol and the Mediterranean Sea.

Casares

Casares, a 45 minute drive away from Marbella, is right by the border between the provinces of Cadiz and Malaga. It is one of the most beautiful Andalusian settings within the Malaga province. This quaint Spanish village sits in a peaceful rural setting amidst nature. For those interested in local history, Blas Infante, known as the ‘father of Andalusia’, was born in Casares.

Ronda

Nobody should leave Marbella without visiting Ronda. Just a 50 minute drive away, this historic charming town is known for a number of tourist attractions, such as the deep El Tajo gorge (a whopping 98 meters high!). It is also considered to be one of Andalusia’s most beautiful towns. Ronda also has a historic bullring, a bandit museum, and picturesque, traditional streets where visitors can enjoy a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
