Puerto Banus located to the west of Marbella simply has it all; fantastic beaches, million pound yachts, and designer shopping, outstanding nightlife and unlimited people watching. It is the marina to Nueva Andalucia, the urban area, and was built in May 1970 by José Banús, a local property developer, as a luxury marina and shopping complex. It has since become one of the largest entertainment centres in the Costa del Sol, with 5 million annual visitors.

Although small, it offers many attractions including beautiful beaches on either side of the port, many restaurants and bars, water sports, golf, a casino, cinema and upmarket and expensive fashion boutiques. There is also an El Corte Ingles department store here, the largest department store chain in Spain.

To get a bird’s eye view of the port and its magnificent setting, then take a boat trip around the local coastline. You will get a beautiful view of the mountain of La Concha in the background (ideal for hiking and active tourism). The marina is a great place for a stroll and to see the expensive yachts moored here.

Puerto Banús is home to three beaches: Playa Nueva AndaluciaPlaya Puerto Banus (also known as Playa de Levante) and Playa del Rio Verde. The three beaches are all very different from each other, so you are sure to find one that suits your taste. Playa Nueva Andalucia and Playa del Rio Verde have both been awarded a blue flag by the European Union for their excellent facilities and high standards of cleanliness. All have chiringuitos (beach restaurants) during the summer, when beach parties are held on Playa Puerto Banus with bars, music and dancing on the beach, day and night.

Climate
Puerto Banus enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and warm winters. Cooling breezes from the sea make the summer heat manageable, temperatures are an average of 34 ºC in summer.

Nightlife
Puerto Banus is definitely the place to come to if you are looking for a varied and busy nightlife scene. The town is packed with alfresco bars, piano clubs and discos, which all keep going until dawn. Many of the boutique shops stay open during the summer months until midnight and do not then open until midday.

Eating out
The port is lined with upmarket Spanish seafood restaurants, American hamburger joints, and Italian eateries, plus there are a couple of good Indian restaurants.

Step back away from the port and into the plaza shopping area and there are places for tapas (and McDonalds if you need a quick fix, when shopping)

Culture

A three-ton statue of a rhinoceros by Salvador Dalí was placed in Puerto Banús in 2004. Officially known as Rinoceronte vestido con puntillas ("Rhinoceros dressed in lace"), Dalí created the sculpture in 1956 following the filming of his surrealist movie La aventura prodigiosa de la encajera y el rinoceronte ("The prodigious adventure of the lacemaker and the rhinoceros") in 1954.
